Photoshop comes of age
Photoshop 1.0 hit the marketplace in February 1990. (Ein Interview mit den Knoll-Brüdern sowie Fotos der ersten Photoshop-Version finden Sie auf http://www.photoshopnews.com.)
Happy Birthday Photoshop!
As part of our celebration of the 18th birthday of the leading image processing software, we asked Photoshop-Diva Katrin Eismann to assist us by answering a few questions:
AW: Katrin, can you still remember your first contact with Photoshop?
KE: Yes, there was Color Studio which was a more powerful program and harder to learn.
AW: Did you start using Photoshop immediately or was your romance with the software slow. Why was it/wasn’t it love at first sight?
KE: Head over heels – love at first site – couldn’t sleep, wouldn’t eat, I could only think about Photoshop. Never wanted to be in the darkroom again after that!
AW: What was your first major project with Photoshop?
KE: It was a series of portraits of my classmates – that I photographed with a Sony Mavica. Each image fit onto a floppy disk and the manipulations were terrible! ; )
AW: Any anecdotes?
KE: My second project was a series of scanner still lives – which was much more successful. I even scanned my portrait which was rather painful as the scanner had to make three passes and I had to keep my eyes open of reach pass…I couldn’t see for about five minutes after that!
AW: Now that Photoshop has become an adult after 18 years, what was your experience with the development of the software and its teething problems?
KE: I am very impressed by the dedication that the Adobe engineers put into Photoshop. They live, eat, and breathe Photoshop – it’s their passion and this shows. The funny thing is – when we were working with version 1.07 or 2.0 or 2.5 we thought it was the greatest thing we had ever seen! We were pioneers…and then with 3.0 layers were introduced and we thought life simply couldn’t get any better…now with CS3 I can’ wait to see what future versions will inspire us to create!
AW: Did you update regularly or only once in a blue moon?
KE: As soon as possible!
AW: What would your wish list for the next 5 to 10 years Photoshop to look like?
KE: I hope that it becomes customizable – I would like to create a leaner Photoshop for Photographers that keeps track of what I do to images and creates automated commands that can be applied to other images. It would also be great to be able to apply the same correction to all open images – not one at a time.
AW: If you could give beginners one single tip, what would it be?
KE: Find a project that keeps you up day and night and dig, dig, dig into it!
